Motivating EE and EPQ Students through Supervision
What kind of communication skills help teachers supervise a seventeen year old student for their extended project?
It was a pleasure to facilitate a workshop about coaching skills for EE and EPQ supervision recently at Tanglin Trust School. Supervising independent projects can be one of the most rewarding, and at times, complex parts of teaching. From contracting conversations (“How could we work together at our best?”) to advisory meetings at different stages, the group brought deep expertise, experience, and honesty to every discussion and activity.
We were reminded that great supervision isn’t all about the expertise, it’s also about creating safe space for students to think, take ownership, and grow through the process.
A huge thank you to Emma Horne for organising, to everyone who contributed ideas and energy, and to Tanglin Trust School for continuing to invest in meaningful professional learning.
