Making a Casual Holiday Conversation Meaningful

The holiday season is a time when we gather with friends, family, and colleagues, sharing stories of the past year, hopes for the next, and sometimes even challenges we’ve faced along the way. These conversations are more than small talk, they are moments to honour the time we spend together, strengthen relationships, and build trust.

🥂 If you want to make these conversations even more meaningful, here’s a small tip.  Try ending them with an open question, such as these.

“What feels most important to you as you move forward?”
“What’s the next step that feels right for you?”
“What’s something you are most proud of from this year?”
“What’s one thing you want to carry into the next year?”
“What are you curious to explore next?”

Even if everything else in the conversation is casual, ending this way is powerful. That one small change invites reflection, encourages ownership, and deepens connection. It’s not about giving advice or solving a problem, it’s about letting the other person explore their own thoughts and feelings. It leaves people feeling heard, respected, and energised for what comes next.

✨ 🤔 What’s one open-ended question you could use this holiday season to make someone feel truly seen? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments on Linkedin.
