Creating an Opt-in, Inclusive Coaching Culture

“Democratic voluntary involvement.”

The whole cost of the book was worth it for this one phrase about building a coaching culture.

🔸 Democratic - Everyone in the school should be able to participate.

🔸 Voluntary - People should be able to opt-in to coaching or coach training, not be forced.

🔸 Involvement - Those who volunteer should be able to contribute positively.

Creating a coaching culture in school can be done in many ways, and there are debates about top-down rollouts and bottom-up grassroots movements. Both of these can work. An ideal coaching culture, says Christian van Nieuwerburgh, has “democratic voluntary involvement” as a key principle.

We are presenting a workshop about creating a coaching culture in schools at CoachUP on Saturday, 9 May.

The CoachUP community is amazingly supportive and thoughtful. Please join us there.

🔸 Where do you see democratic voluntary involvement in your school?
