Coaching for the Whole Person
When we get coached about work topics, we usually come away with personal insights as well. Similarly, our personal learning often illuminates solutions to work challenges.
It’s common for coaching to help clients beyond the topic they choose for coaching. At ICF Singapore’s recent International Coaching Week, Anupama Murali and Ruchi Parekh mentioned a study that indicated that 80% of coaching clients report improvements in their lives beyond the presenting issue.
Coaches can bring about this whole life transformation for their clients by asking questions that explicitly help them apply insights throughout their life domains. Here are some suggested questions from us.
🔹 How does this insight apply elsewhere in your life?
🔹 How might this impact on other areas of your life?
🔹 What within you is at stake when it comes to this decision?
🔹 What have you learned in your (personal/professional) life that sheds light on this?
🔹 How has this challenge showed up in other areas of your life?
🔹 How do your (personal/professional) values connect to this (professional/personal) life situation?
🔹 If you chose to do nothing about this, what might be the impact on other areas of your life?
💡 What would you ask to connect someone’s learning across different areas of life? Join the conversation on LinkedIn to share your thoughts.
Thanks to Murali and Parekh for sparking this learning for Sarah at ICW, hosted by ICF Singapore.
