Work Experience at TBS

✨ Last week, we had the privilege of hosting two Year 10 students from Tanglin Trust School for their work experience week, and honestly, they probably taught us as much as we taught them.

🌱 From marketing research and poster design to photography and client meetings, they stepped into every opportunity with curiosity and courage. One highlight was watching them learn coaching skills and ask thoughtful questions during a client meeting. What made it powerful was seeing the client walk into the meeting without clear ideas, but leave with clarity, direction, and new possibilities simply through the process of being coached.

For us, this captured the real beauty of work experience week. It is not just about training young minds, but trusting them, involving them, and allowing them to witness how meaningful conversations can create change. As educators-turned-employers, it reminded us how important it is to see young people not just as students, but as capable contributors. We would love to see more employers join initiatives like this, and perhaps more classrooms embrace a coaching mindset too: trusting students, listening more, and creating safe spaces where young people can think for themselves and surprise us all.

✨ Huge credit to Zoë Williams and her team for another brilliantly organised Work Experience Week. Behind every student placement is a lot of unseen coordination and care, and it’s clear how much thought and commitment goes into making these experiences so impactful for young people. We’re grateful to be involved and look forward to joining again next year.
